I especially love how the pet's life was detailed, even to the end, as sometimes in books the animals are treated as less than minor characters, and you never know what happened to them. Even the minor characters were developed from beginning to end. The characters were so well developed that I felt they could be people I know, and love. All my 'predictions' for the outcome of each struggle from chapter to chapter were wrong. I read this book savoring every detail, and wondering where it would lead next. I had no desire to 'skip ahead' as I do with other books because I can predict where they're going.
What I most enjoyed was the fact that I could not predict where the story would lead next. The words wrought a writing style that made it a pleasure to read, as well as made me think.
